Fashion with a Bad Reputation

Let's face it, things get trendy or stylish and sometimes those styles get way out of hand,

im mainly thinking of leggings right now

I've seen way to many girls who treat sheer tights as leggings, and I've seen things I hope never to see again...

so lets discuss the right way to style leggings, because they can actually be a staple in your wardrobe, and worn the right way they can look more sophisticated and stylish.

Outfit 1. Chambray

this outfit has a classic clean silhouette that's flattering for almost all body types and ages. the chambray dress is simple and classic with a cinched waist to emphasize your smallest point. black leggings help to keep this look more modest, since the dress is shorter. a pair of loafers with heels give it a classy but trendy look, and finish off with a waist belt and a gold pendant necklace.

Outfit 2. Chiffon

this outfit is simple and neutral its perfect for grabbing coffee or a day of errands. a olive green chiffon shirt works as a great base to your outfit. make sure the hem is longer when wearing with leggings. however, consider a more structured leggings with this look to keep it more put together. pair it with an oversized cardigan, black sandals and a oversized watch for a stylish but casual look.

Outfit 3. Cotton Knit

so the last outfit is a casual but Parisian chic look. a cotton knit striped sweater is always a good go to piece in a wardrobe. its always trendy and a great basic. pair it with jodhpur inspired legging in black or a dark grey. leopard printed studded loafers are also trendy but a good basic print to mix some pattern into this look. keep accessories simple with an oversized link statement  necklace and pearl studs.

sorry for the lack of posts in the last couple weeks my blog was down for maintenance... hopefully no more flaws...

Summer Trends

We're in the heart of summer now, and even though its overcast today here in the city, i thought i would research this summer's style trends and put together three outfits.

i have class in an hour and a half so here goes!!

Outfit 1. Denim on Denim

Denim on denim is a huge trend, and while it may be hard to layer that much denim during the day this outfit is perfect for evenings out. find a polka dot or printed chambray shirt to add some visual interest to this denim trend, and if your shirt is lighter in color layer a darker denim jacket over, or vice versa, this way you get  color and pattern. pair with a peach colored circle skirt (which is another huge trend this summer) for a soft color, and a mint green necklace adds a pop but is color coordinated. a pair of denim flats finish off this look.

Outfit 2. High Waisted Shorts and Tribal

this look is perfect for festivals, BBQ's and concerts, its casual but super trendy. Tribal print is still big this season, but tone it down with soft colors in the print. pair with denim high waisted shorts and tuck in your shirt for a more put together look. layer a thin cream colored scarf over a dream catcher pendant for a free spirited look. and converse are always a classic, but are becoming trendy again. white high tops will work as a basic in your wardrobe and look great for the summer.

Outfit 3. White, Neon and a Maxi Dress

Maxi Dresses are comfy and easy to wear during the summer, they're essentially an outfit on their own. pair a white and lace maxi dress with a neon yellow belt for a bold pop of color. Peacock feather earrings and a gold cuff bracelet add a couple more accessories to your outfit, but dont look as though you're going completely overboard. finish off this pretty summer look with cognac colored braided sandals. you'll be free spirited and pretty.

I'd like to dedicate this post to Talia, she was a 13 year old beauty guru on youtube who struggled with cancer, she was a beautiful person inside and out and brought so much joy whereever she went. She lost her battle with cancer this morning. While we have lost Talia here, heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

Rest in Peace Talia.

First Day Back

The first day back at school is usually an exhilirating feeling... who will be in my classes? what will my teachers be like? and most importantly what will i wear?

so i've prepared three potential outfits for my first day back at school.

Here we go

1. Flower Child

Braided Floral Headband

this outfit is comfy and chic, the maxi skirt is a knit so its like wearing sweatpants, but cute sweatpants and a lace t-shirt makes the look more put together. finish off with a flower crown, and a triangle pendant. Sandals make the look casual.

2. Tough Girl

A black lace and chiffon tank has an edgy vibe. paired with leatherette pants adds a touch girl look. an unembellished denim jacket keeps the look from looking too punky, but for a touch of glam add a pair of black studded flats.

3. Fashionista

A chiffon shirt and a high waisted circle skirt is the epitome of a fashion forward outfit right now. paired with a pearl statement necklace and a brown belt and shoes will pair nicely with the black skirt. you'll look like you know what you're doing, and appear fashionable and chic.

Summer School

So unfortunately for me, i do have school in the summer, and thats the tricky thing with fashion because going to fashion school i want to look nice, but its also hot! so i want to be comfortable. so here are a few summer staples i have picked up to get me ready for summer classes.

So here we go!

1. Cropped Skinnies

first of all they're like a denim cigarette pant! i love the cigarette pant because i love my ankles, which sounds weird but i dont really care. but during the summer its nice to have a more seasonally appropriate denim. cropped skinnies look great with sandals and heels so you can dress them up or down.

2. Knit Maxi Skirt

so i made my own pattern for a fold over maxi skirt, which is awesome. it hugs around my hips but is fun and wide around the hem which makes them comfy but air-y for the summer, its great for lazy days and a cute but comfy easy outfit.

3. Lace Peplum

i just think they are a great versatile piece in any closet. they're lace so they breathe during the hot weather, but they look great with shorts, jeans, a skirt etc! its a great way to stay cool during those heat waves but look cute and polished.

4. Fun Scarf

i go to school in the city, so layering is key for me. its cold during the morning but usually warms up a bit during the day... but some of my classroom are chilly. so a scarf is always a good idea to keep on me. they're lightweight and dont take up a lot of room, but add an extra layer for warmth when needed.

5. Sandals

preferably a pair with a back strap. i would love to wear flip flops 24/7 but going to the city i feel like flip flops aren't so safe. these are cute and the teal color adds a pop to any outfit, but most importantly my feet are secure and im less likely to trip!!

6. Crochet and Chambray

its cute and feminine, and an aodrable combination of textiles. I love the idea of crochet and chambray. add a cute top that fits your style into your wardrobe for the summer, its lightweight enough to keep you cool, but looks polished so you dont look like you just rolled out of bed.

7. High Low Tank

keep the back hem to a minimum, i have seen some extreme high low tanks... which confused me because the back is long enough to be a dress but the front is wayyyy too short... but for a casual look with just leggings and maybe a denim jacket or cardigan, its casual but comfy and you can definitely dress it up with cute accessories.

8. Bralette

not as a shirt on its own, heaven forbid, but i think they're super cute layered under a shirt or a tank. it replaces the bra during the summer so you'll definitely feel more comfortable, but its a cute layering piece as well. its just a good thing to have in your wardrobe.

9. Thin Oversized Cardigan

alexander wang oversized cardigan

this is a perfect layering piece once again, its great for the foggy mornings and chilly evenings, and like the scarf its thin enough to stuff in your bag for when you dont need it. oversized cardigans have gotten quite trendy, but pair it with a less voluminous outfit so you dont overwhelm your body.

10. Paper Bag Shorts

personally i hate tight shorts with short inseams... i just dont feel comfortable. i do however love the paper bag style short. its a looser cut, often with a bow tie detail at the front. linen is a good option for the summer, even though it wrinkles very quickly it still helps to keep you cooler.

so there are my summer basics for summer school. stay chic and comfy, while beating the heat! every teacher loves a a student who can accomplish a lot!!

perfect for the parades, the BBQ's and fireworks!

Outfit 1. The Parade!

mix patterns like stripes and polka dots. a red striped shirt will give a casual look paired with polka dot denim jeans. keep it simple and add a red pair of flats and a blue hairbow!

Outfit 2. The BBQ

Dress it up a little it with a cute navy dress and a red pull over. For a comfy outfit pair it with sandals instead of heels. Gold will pair nicely with this look for a 4th of July BBQ.

Outfit 3. The Fireworks

enjoy the fireworks in a casual comfy outfit. a spirited tank top with printed shorts. in case it gets chilly bring a neutral throwover cardigan. a pair of booties finishes off the patriotic look.
